Manapla, Negros Occidental — SINECOMM is one of the most awaited events every Lasallian Week – I too have been waiting for this and this year is much more exciting because SINECOMM is pushed through online.
In line with the celebration of L-DAYS – Lasallian Week in the pre-pandemic, the Communication Society of the University of St. La Salle (CSU) successfully pulls off SINECOMM online on its first day on Wednesday, October 28, 2020.
The first short film of the day was premiered at 10 a.m. and the last show at 6 p.m. Short films and videos were posted in a private group made by CSU in Facebook named as Sinecomm 2020 Viewing Lounge. The activity will last for 3 days, from October 28 until 30.

This year’s SINECOMM being extra named as SINECOMM: Home Edition 2020, emphasizing the changes brought by the pandemic to the institution.
Highlighted in the event were the short films and outputs produced by the former and current AB Communication students and some Lasallian alumni.
This is the first time that SINECOMM was done online.
According to Fredu Bayon-on, a current 3rd year AB Communication student, multi-awarded director, and this year’s organizer of SINECOMM, it wasn’t easy to push through the event considering today’s circumstances.
“Because of pandemic, showing of films in our original venue at USLS Media Laboratory is not possible. Amo na nangita way ang officers to continue ang ini nga event. We decided to conduct the film showing through Facebook private group para ma cater ang tanan nga tawo nga gusto mag watch anytime, anywhere”, Bayon-on said during his interview with Indelible News through Facebook Messenger.
“New films will be uploaded every day in this 3-day event. As the organizer, the medium is very challenging because we usually show films in a movie house or auditorium. Daw ka overwhelming man nga day before the event, there are already almost 200 people nga nagjoin sa group. We are hoping nga ma reach pa gid 500 people ang maka join and watch sa mga films nga gin ubra ka ABCO Students and Lasallian Filmmakers.”, Bayon-on answered when Indelible News asked him about the challenges he encountered as the club decided to push the event online.
The short films and videos shown during the first day were “Chrissy’s Closet” directed by Fredu Bayon-on, “The Process” by Alessandra Diaz, “Pagpatak sang ulan sa tig-ilinit sang Abril” by Renzo Grijaldo, “Sa Manlulupig” by Jed Descutido, “Inday” by Maegan Matamoro and Nina Aira Villanueva, “Suba sang Malogo” by Denli Chavez, and 2019-2020 2nd year Communication students’ “Darwowin” (Game Show) and 30-seconder Values Advertisements.
SINECOMM can be watched freely by the members of the private group. They were individually posted and will be made available until the last day of the event, which is on the 30th of October. Rules were also strictly set and made clear to avoid copyright infringement.
SINECOMM this year shifting online brought an advantage for it is free admission and only requires viewers to send a request or accept the invitation to join the private group. The private group is open to all which means it is not only exclusive to the Lasallian Community.
CSU is expecting for 500 or more members on the private group by the last day of the event.
